Removing existing paint from surfaces by means of sanding, scraping, or
other mechanical means may create dust or particles containing lead. Avoid
creating dust or other debris. BREATHING OR EATING LEAD-CONTAINING DUST
OR DEBRIS CAN CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN AND PREGNANT
WOMEN.
Special properties
Vanguard Clear Grain Stains are made with light last pigments; fading
of the stain is, therefore, not a problem. Clear Grain Stains will bring
out the beauty of any wood by accentuating the natural grain of the wood.
Clear Grain Stains are produced in four base stains. These four stains
may be intermixed to obtain an endless array of beautiful wood stains.
Where to use
Use on new or properly prepared previously stained woodwork and/or furniture.
Surface preparation
Surface preparation is a key factor in proper finishing. Always sand anything
before doing any finishing. Sand with the grain; avoid cutting through
veneer. We suggest using fine sandpaper for most jobs; however, if a piece
of wood is especially rough, use medium sandpaper first to reduce the
labor required. The surface must be clean, and free of dirt, grease, and
mildew. Fill holes and cracks with paste wood filler. Topcoat with appropriate
Vanguard varnish or lacquer.
Application
Apply only when the air temperature and that of the surface to be stained
are above 45 degrees F. Stir thoroughly before using. Dampen a cotton
cloth with the stain and wipe it on to the surface, or spray it on the
surface. Wipe stain into all pores making sure that your final wiping
motion is with the grain of the wood. For greater color intensity, repeat
the process. Allow to dry before proceeding with the topcoat.
