Special properties
P5900 is a high quality shop coat primer for hot and cold rolled steel.
It serves as an excellent primer for structural steel. This product has
an estimated outdoor durability of from 1 2 to 2 years by itself on clean
steel.
Where to use
P5900 is ideal for new and previously painted metal surfaces. It is especially
well suited for large jobs in which structural steel is being erected
and/or refurbished. May be top coated with alkyd, acrylic or oil-based
paints. Do not topcoat with lacquers, vinyl or epoxy paints.
Surface preparation
Surface must be clean and free for grease, rust, and scaling paint. Remove
all loose rust, corrosion, and paint by scraping, wire brushing and/or
sanding. For new galvanized metal, allow to weather for six months or
remove oil coating with paint thinner and wash with vinegar. Rinse well
before applying P5900.
Application
Apply only when the air temperature and that of the surface to be painted
are above 45 degrees F. Avoid painting late in the day when dew or condensation
are likely to form or when rain is threatening. Stir thoroughly before
using.
